The former mayor and adviser to President Donald Trump claims the current system allows illegals who have committed crimes to stay in the U.S. after serving their sentence.
His solution?
The former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani called for the creation of “detention centers” to house illegal immigrants convicted of crimes.
“What we should do is, first of all, we should develop detention centers for them, they shouldn’t be catch and release, they shouldn’t go to jail for five years for assault or attempted murder or selling drugs, and then go back out on the street,” said Giuliani in an interview with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Fox News Saturday. “They should go into a detention center. They should be held, and then we should exert all the pressure that we have, which is enormous by the way, to deport them to the countries where they’re supposed to go to.”
Giuliani’s comments come one day after Trump signed a new executive order which halts immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Trump has not backed down from his campaign promise to build a wall along the Mexican border since taking office last week.
