A young boy did some investigating in his parents’ bedroom and made a discovery so startling, he turned them in to the authorities. His actions resulted in their arrests.

A 10-year-old boy from Pennsylvania became curious about what his parents were up to after he was repeatedly left home alone numerous times. He decided to search their bedroom and found a lot more than he expected.

He knew that his parents, Lakin Michelle Stoppard and Anthony Edward Young II were dysfunctional and neglectful and that they were high much of the time.

YDR.com reports that the boy begged his father to stop his drug use in the past, but the mother always defended it. So, he took matters into his own hands.

He explored their bedroom and found syringes, which prompted him to call the police. York County investigators came to have a look and found the paraphernalia and stash of drugs in the nightstand. They found eight syringes, one glass crack pipe, four packets of heroin, and other drug-related items.

When police called the parents to come home, they refused, but they found the boy’s mother “stumbling across a field.” The officers approached her and she shouted obscenities and was irate, with documents stating that she had “glazed eyes, constricted pupils, raspy speech, and poor balance.” The boy’s father was later found and arrested.

YDR notes: “When the officer tried to talk with Stoppard about the drug paraphernalia in her home, she cursed at him in a loud voice. The officer arrested her, charging her with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, in addition to the other charges.”

The couple was charged with endangering the welfare of children and possession of drug paraphernalia.

As for the boy, he was placed in the custody of York County Children and Youth Services.

A woman who was at the home reportedly told police the boy “is pretty smart for his age and is aware of his mother’s and father’s past history of narcotic issues. She advised that (the boy) confronted his father about the issues already but his mother would defend him.”

Holly Garner, a concerned parent interviewed by WGAL-TV noted, “That’s sad because no child should be exposed to things like that.” She added, “He stood up for what he knew was right. Can you imagine what he was going through in order to turn your own parents in? He must have been living in horrific conditions.”

While this boy’s actions are impressive, some worried about his future, with one commenter stating: “I agree this smart young man needs a family that will help be a successful adult unfortunately he could end up on one of the bad foster homes as I did I ended up living on the streets of Baltimore from age 11 until 18. I turned out pretty good I don’t know how god I’m thinking…I will surely pray for this young man”

Another commented: “What a smart and courageous boy!” Still another noted: “Hope the boy gets some good foster parents, that can be just as scary!”
