A woman who blindfolded herself during sex with her “boyfriend” was shocked to learn that it wasn’t a man at all – rather, a female friend of hers.

The woman told a court that she thought she was having sex with a man named Kye Fortune, who asked her to blindfold herself so she wouldn’t see scars he had as a result of having a brain tumor. The woman met the man she believed to be Fortune on Facebook when he sent her a friend request. The man in the profile was half-Filipino and half-Latino. The pair talked online for some time, and he later told her that he was involved in a car accident before doctors discovered a brain tumor.

At the time, he said, he was receiving treatment and claimed he was not well enough to see her in person. They spoke on the phone frequently, however, with the woman describing his voice as “high-pitched.”

“He was saying how much I had helped him get through his illness. (He said) it was a sign, we should get married, we should have kids, we were going to do all sorts of things,” the woman told police, Telegraph reported.

During the same time that she was talking to Fortune, the woman met Gayle Newland – who ultimately became a “really good friend” to her. Newland claimed to know Fortune.

Eventually, Fortune and the woman agreed to meet at a hotel on the condition that she wear a blindfold because he was “anxious about the way he looked” and “could not walk properly” due to muscle injury.

When the woman entered the hotel room, Fortune was in the bathroom and she was shocked to find the bed covered in rose petals and stuffed animals. Fortune finally exited the bathroom once the woman had her blindfold on, and told her that he had just left a private hospital. They proceeded to have sex, and he then told her that he had to go back to the hospital.

Several more visits took place before the truth was revealed.

“When I was having sex I grabbed for the back of his head and my hand got caught on something. It did not feel right,” the woman said in court, Telegraph reported.

“I was sat on the bed, he was standing up. Something in my mind said ‘pull it (the blindfold) off, pull it off’. I just pulled it off. Gayle was just standing there… I just couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t believe it. Straight away she held her hand down over her face and said ‘it’s not what you think.'”

Newland was pretending to be Fortune the entire time, and even used a prosthetic penis during sex. She was charged with five counts of sexual assault for her actions.

Some readers felt that the woman should be held accountable for believing Newland’s lie, and that she shouldn’t be seeking justice for something that she consented to.

“No charges should be brought against this person this is a load of shit and she was still willing to fuck something she didn’t even know what they looked like or if it was a man or a women, she said YES,” one person commented on Facebook.

“Really this dumbass has sex with someone she has never met in person AND agrees to wear a blindfold to have sex and doesn’t think twice about it sorry your a dumbass it’s not rape YOU consented just because it turned out to be someone other than who you though your in dumb fault Everytime I think people can’t be any stupider another one comes along,” another added.
