Days after Matthew Perry’s body was discovered in his Los Angeles home hot tub, further information about his death has come to light.
A ‘drowning’ has been ruled as the cause of “Friends” actor Matthew Perry’s death on Saturday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 54.
Matthew Perry starred as Chandler Bing on the hit TV show “Friends” from 1994 until 2004.
Perry, who has been open about his battles with substance abuse, was allegedly found in a hot tub at his own house after police responded to a complaint of cardiac arrest at approximately 4 p.m. local time.
He admitted in an interview in 2016 that he couldn’t recall recording the first three seasons of ‘Friends’ because he was so immersed in his addiction at the time.
No illegal substances were discovered, reports TMZ.
On a recent Saturday morning, reports indicated that Matthew Perry had played two hours of pickleball before sending his assistant out to do some errands. According to TMZ, Perry’s aide arrived at his home and discovered him motionless. He then called 911.
According to Fox News, Perry was already dead by the time firefighters arrived at his Pacific Palisades home.
“A bystander had brought the man’s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then firefighters removed him from the water,” a statement from public information officer Erik Scott read, according to Fox News.
Perry’s death is still under investigation. Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office updated Perry’s cause of death as “deferred.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s officer told Fox News:
“An autopsy was completed today, and toxicology results are pending.”
Fox News reported:
Matthew Perry was already deceased by the time Los Angeles City Firefighters reached his Pacific Palisades home on Saturday, Fox News Digital can confirm.
Upon arrival, first responders found “an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone hot tub,” public information officer Erik Scott explained.
“A bystander had brought the man’s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then firefighters removed him from the water,” his statement read. “A rapid medical assessment, sadly, revealed the man was deceased prior to first responder arrival. The circumstances are under investigation by LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner.”
Perry posted one last haunting photo of himself in a hot tub a few days before he was found dead.
“Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman,” Matthew Perry said in a post on Instagram this week, shortly before his death.
