This Stray Was At Death’s Door. But When Vets Found His Owner, They Uncovered The Real Story

A poor stray dog was close to death when he was rescued and that event it turned into a dramatic reunion with his owner.

A December 2015 video shared by Animal Planet featured the story of a dog called Baby. Although vets would later learn the dog’s name, they knew little to nothing about him when he first arrived at an Alaskan clinic where he was treated by a veterinarian called Dr. Dee because he was covered in injuries and clearly had health issues.

Yesterday, someone found a dog roaming in their yard, running loose,” Dee said. Not only was his human nowhere to be found, but Baby also clearly had a skin condition. Both of these things indicated that Baby might have been living on the streets.
The assumption was backed up by the dog’s injuries. In fact, it looked like he had been hit by a vehicle of some kind. “He either got hit by a car or injured [otherwise],” Dee explained.

A woman contacted the authorities after she found the dog in her property that was clearly in a terrible condition. She can clearly tell that Baby was not in good condition as he was no match against her 2 small dogs.

“He has some scratches on his face,” Dee said. “Somebody found him [and] their two Chihuahuas were trying to beat him up, so I don’t think he’s too ferocious, for sure.”

After doing some research, she found out that Baby is not actually a stray after all. Fortunately, after animal control’s investigation, they were sure about one thing. “[They] have verified that this dog comes from a good home,” Dee told Animal Planet.

The owner, Cynthia, cannot wait to see Baby again since it has been a long time they did not see each other. “He was a puppy when I met him,” she said.

He’s always been by my side, so him going missing was hard,” she explained. Baby had run away from home the previous day. Following his disappearance, she tried everything to track him down. She had searched every street and launched a search campaign on social media.

Cynthia must have been overjoyed when she discovered that Baby had been found alive and well. But there was another thing that needed to be addressed: the dog’s skin condition and health issues. Dee’s tests had picked up something which she passed on to Cynthia.

“We didn’t know what was going on with him yesterday… so we did some blood work on him to make sure he’s okay,” Dee told Cynthia. “He has a really elevated white blood cell count. But I could tell… that he has lots of other things going on with his skin.”

After a short talk about Baby’s health, Dee reunited the two. They were ecstatic to see each other, and Baby jumped into his mommy’s arms to shower her with kisses. He continued to sit on her lap even as Dee discussed his future treatment. “I could tell right off the bat, she’s a loving mom,” Dee said.

“I suspect the reason he’s so skinny and his skin looks so terrible is that Baby has food allergies that are not under control,” she explained. While she worked on a long-term solution, Dee prescribed some immediate relief that would help to reduce the effects of his allergies.

To start with, Baby was given a course of antibiotics and a doggy form of Benadryl. His treatment would then continue under Dee’s watchful eye – and she was happy to help Cynthia. “I could tell right off the bat, she’s a loving mom,” Dee said.

“After hearing the story of what they’ve been through, the frustration, you can tell she’s just totally as frustrated as the dog,” Dee said. Cynthia seemed close to tears at the reunion. “I’m just really excited that he’s going to come home and that we can help his skin condition and stomach issues,” she said.
