Officials with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department confirm Bay St. Louis’ top cop, Police Chief Mike DeNardo, has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a WLOX reporter, there were several officers on the scene who were visibly upset over the news that their chief had just lost his life.

“Shocked. He’s my good friend. I’m shocked that this happened,” said former city attorney and long-time friend Don Rafferty.
