With so much controversy and negativity in the world, it’s heartwarming to hear positive and uplifting stories.

No matter how much we choose to ignore it, there is still racial tension around us. While we may not condone slavery anymore, people are still treated differently based on their color, religion, and ethnicity to varying degrees.

But it shouldn’t be like this, and one mother perfectly captured how beautiful life can be if we looked past color, religion, and ethnicity.

While Ayanna Toye Barrows was walking along Myrtle Beach in South Carolina with her daughter, a boy came up and began talking to her little girl. He showed her what was around his neck and the two became friends fast. Before parting ways, the mom snapped a picture of the pair, not realizing what else it caught until after.

Barrows says the boy talked about the shark tooth around his neck and told them his name.

“They part ways while saying goodbye, walking in the opposite direction” Barrows said.

A few minutes later the boy came running back, yelling out Barrows’ daughter’s name.

“She turns around and is greeted by his smile. So they share a few words, mainly about his super cool shark’s tooth that apparently gave him powers.”

Barrows said she asked the boy’s mother for permission to take a beautiful photo of the kids.

“This is a moment that we humans understand as just simply seeing no color lines, no judgment, no race, no hate, no shades. It’s just pure… two kids meeting on a sunset walk without a care in the world… all they saw was each other.”

“The world would be a much better place if we acted like these two kids.”

As we get older, we’re told to quit acting like kids, as if it’s a bad thing. In reality, the world would benefit from many child-like behaviors. Kids aren’t jaded by bias, don’t make snap judgements about other people unless they are raised that way, and simply see the good in everyone and all things, rather than creating the bad.
