- What Happened: Pam Bondi begged President Trump to keep her job in an intense Oval Office showdown Wednesday night before being fired. Trump's primary grievance was that Bondi allegedly tipped off Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell that the FBI was preparing to release investigative files on his relationship with alleged Chinese spy Christine Fang — an act Trump considered "unforgivable."
- Why It Matters: Swalwell has already sent a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel threatening legal action to block the Fang files from being released. Bondi allegedly warned him they were coming. Trump sees it as a direct betrayal.
- Bottom Line: Bondi survived the Epstein mess for 14 months. It was the Fang Fang leak that finally got her fired.
The Epstein files made Pam Bondi radioactive with Trump's base. But according to sources close to the White House, that is not what got her fired.
What got her fired was Eric Swalwell.
BREAKING: Pam Bondi was fired, in part, because President Trump believed she had tipped off Eric Swalwell about the FBI’s effort to share investigative documents about his relationship with an alleged Chinese spy, according to the Daily Mail.

Trump called the alleged leak an "unforgivable offense," according to a senior administration source who spoke with the Daily Mail. The accusation is explosive: Bondi allegedly tipped off Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell that the FBI was preparing to release investigative files related to his relationship with Christine Fang, an alleged Chinese intelligence operative who reportedly had a years-long relationship with the California congressman while he sat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Swalwell has denied any wrongdoing in connection with Fang and has sent a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel threatening legal action to block release of the files. "If they do this, it will be the greatest abuse of power by an FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover," Swalwell's lawyer reportedly told him. In 2023, then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy removed Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee specifically because of his reported relationship with Fang.
Trump's view: Bondi, the Attorney General of the United States, warned his political enemy that damaging federal files were about to drop. In Trump's world, that is not a mistake. That is a betrayal.

The firing itself unfolded in dramatic fashion. It was originally scheduled for Friday but was rushed Wednesday night after rampant speculation about her replacement consumed Washington. Bondi met with Trump in the Oval Office before his nationally televised Iran speech. A senior administration source told the Daily Mail that Bondi "begged" Trump to reconsider, pleading for more time in the role. "She was unhappy and tried to change his mind," the source said. Trump was adamant. By the time he stepped to the podium to address the nation on Iran, Bondi had already lost her job and was on her way back to Florida.
Trump posted on Truth Social afterward. "Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900." He said she would be "transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector." In their Wednesday conversation, Trump had floated the possibility of appointing her as a federal judge. That offer appears to be off the table.
🚨#BREAKING: According to recent reports Pam Bondi had reportedly begged President Donald Trump to not fire her

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, formerly Trump's personal attorney, will serve as acting Attorney General until a permanent replacement is confirmed. Lee Zeldin, whose name had been most frequently mentioned as a potential replacement, does not appear to be the immediate pick.
Bondi had been aware for days that her job might be in danger, privately asking associates whether they thought it was true. She spent Wednesday morning riding in Trump's motorcade to the Supreme Court for birthright citizenship arguments, an apparent attempt to signal closeness to the president. It did not work.
Fourteen months as the top law enforcement officer in the United States. Fired in the Oval Office. On her way to Florida before the speech ended.
The Fang Fang files are still coming. Swalwell's lawyers cannot stop them. And the woman Trump believes tried to help him cannot stop anything anymore.
