- What Happened: Filmmaker Michael Moore published a Substack post titled "The Apocalypse Is Here," accusing President Trump of threatening a "holocaust" against Iran and declaring the United States "the bad guys."
- Why It Matters: Moore posted his screed hours before Trump announced the two-week ceasefire deal that paused the conflict. He praised Iran as "the cradle of one of the greatest civilizations this planet has ever seen" while ignoring the regime's slaughter of tens of thousands of its own citizens.
- Bottom Line: Michael Moore told the U.S. military to mutiny, called America the villain, and praised a terrorist regime. Hours later, Trump got the ceasefire. America is back. Michael Moore is still Michael Moore.
Hours before President Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran that sent oil prices crashing and stock futures surging, Michael Moore was on Substack calling for military mutiny.
The Fahrenheit 9/11 filmmaker posted a lengthy screed Tuesday titled "The Apocalypse Is Here," accusing Trump of threatening a "holocaust" against the Iranian people and declaring the United States "the bad guys" in the conflict. He called Trump "America's terrorist Commander-in-Chief." He urged U.S. military leaders to "disobey illegal and immoral orders." He demanded the impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
He also praised Iran.
"America, a country 250 years old, and the only nation sick and violent enough to have ever used a nuclear weapon, in partnership with Israel, a nation younger than Mick Jagger and Bugs Bunny, and the only nuclear armed nation in its region, are on the verge of wiping one of the oldest civilizations off the map," Moore wrote.
Moore spent several paragraphs celebrating Iran's ancient Persian heritage, calling it "the cradle of one of the greatest civilizations this planet has ever seen." He credited the country with giving the world algebra, medicine, and "the theme song to Game of Thrones." He made no mention of the current Iranian regime's slaughter of tens of thousands of its own citizens who dared to protest against it. He did not mention Iran's funding of Hamas, Hezbollah, or the Houthis. He did not mention the American service members killed during the conflict.
He then turned on his own party.
"The so-called 'opposition party' in the U.S., the party that initiated and continues to enable the genocide in Gaza and whose Senate 'Leader' Chuck Schumer taunted Trump last year to be more aggressive with Iran, stands by now and watches this horror," Moore wrote. "Not simply because they are cowards, but because Democratic leadership actually supports this war."
Moore concluded with a call to arms in all capital letters. "NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US. WE MUST DO IT OURSELVES. THIS MADNESS MUST STOP! AMERICA'S MILITARY LEADERS MUST DISOBEY ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL ORDERS! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US SHOULD BE IN THE STREETS RIGHT NOW."
Hours after Moore posted his apocalypse, Trump announced the ceasefire. Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz. Oil plunged 16%. Markets soared. Peace talks moved to Islamabad.
Moore had declared the apocalypse. Trump announced a deal.
