  • What Happened: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the city filed lawsuits on behalf of "hundreds, if not thousands" of people whose constitutional rights were allegedly stripped by Trump's immigration enforcement.
  • Why It Matters: Frey called ICE operations an "extraordinary invasion" that damaged the economy and hurt public welfare, vowing Minneapolis would stop it from happening again.
  • Bottom Line: The Democrat mayor claimed Minneapolis is standing up "for the endurance of our republic" by suing the Trump administration over immigration enforcement.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey just called federal immigration enforcement an "extraordinary invasion" and filed lawsuits to stop it.

Appearing on MSNBC's "All In" Thursday, the Democrat mayor told host Chris Hayes that his city has filed lawsuits on behalf of "hundreds, if not thousands of people that have had their constitutional rights stripped away from them" by the Trump administration during immigration enforcement operations.

Hayes asked what accountability looks like after "two people who are dead" and "enormous damage and havoc" to the city. Frey said accountability needs to come through lawsuits against the federal government.

"We have preemptive lawsuits that have been filed, response of lawsuits that have been filed, lawsuits that have been filed on behalf of the hundreds, if not thousands of people that have had their constitutional rights stripped away from them," Frey said.

He then called ICE operations an "extraordinary invasion" that damaged Minneapolis's economy, hurt morale, and harmed public welfare. He vowed the city would stop it from happening again.

"We don't want Minneapolis just to be a stop along the route to the next location that has this extraordinary invasion that comes into their city," Frey said. "It's my goal. It's our goal right now, to say that Minneapolis stopped this from happening again. We stood up for the endurance of our republic."

Let that sink in. A Democrat mayor is calling federal immigration enforcement an invasion. He is suing the Trump administration for removing illegal immigrants. And he thinks he is defending the republic by protecting people who broke the law to get here.

This is the same mayor who presided over the George Floyd riots that destroyed Minneapolis. The same mayor who let the city burn while doing nothing. And now he is lecturing America about constitutional rights and the endurance of the republic.

ICE is enforcing immigration law. That is their job. The Trump administration is removing people who are here illegally. That is what they were elected to do. And Minneapolis is filing lawsuits to stop it.

Frey can file all the lawsuits he wants. Federal law still applies. And illegal immigrants do not have a constitutional right to stay in the United States.
