- What Happened: Secretary Kristi Noem revealed that Elon Musk's tech team helped her discover spyware installed by her own DHS employees on her phone and laptop to secretly record meetings.
- Why It Matters: Noem says the spyware was installed on devices belonging to multiple political appointees and would still be running today without outside technology experts to find it.
- Bottom Line: Noem also says her team discovered secret rooms inside DHS with hidden files now in the hands of attorneys, calling it evidence of deep state resistance inside the department.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem just dropped a bombshell that every American needs to hear. Her own employees were spying on her.
The Secretary of Homeland Security revealed in a recent podcast appearance that Elon Musk and his technology team helped her uncover spyware secretly installed on her phone and laptop by DHS staffers. The software was designed to record her meetings without her knowledge. She was not the only target.
"Elon Musk and his team were extremely helpful to me," Noem said. "They helped me identify that some of my own employees in my department had downloaded software on my phone and my laptop to spy on me to record our meetings. They had done that to several of the politicals."
HOLY SH*T: DHS Secretary Kristi Noem reveals that @elonmusk helped her discover spyware that was installed on her and other officials' devices by DHS employees.

The corruption runs DEEP. It all needs to be EXPOSED. pic.twitter.com/Ya2UJrrsee
Read that again. Career government employees inside the Department of Homeland Security installed recording software on the Secretary's personal devices. They did it to multiple political appointees. And they were getting away with it until outside technology experts came in and found it.
"We ended up bringing in people," Noem said. "And that was something that if you didn't have those technology experts here in the department, looking at all of our laptops and our phones and recognizing that kind of software, it would still be happening today."
It would still be happening today. That is the deep state in plain English. Unelected, unaccountable career bureaucrats sabotaging a Cabinet secretary confirmed by the United States Senate because they do not like the agenda the American people voted for.
Performing my role as Secretary of Homeland Security has shown me just how real and dangerous the deep state really is.@elonmusk helped us find that a few DHS staff had installed spying software on the phones and computers of myself and other political hires. This did not happen in a vacuum. Noem has been waging war on leakers inside DHS since taking office, identifying and referring multiple prolific leakers to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution. She has warned that those found leaking could face up to ten years in federal prison. She also revealed that her team discovered secret rooms inside the department containing hidden files that are now in the hands of attorneys.
The bureaucracy does not just resist. It actively fights back. It installs spyware. It hides files. It leaks operations that put law enforcement officers' lives at risk.
Noem's message going forward is clear. "One of the things I need to do and continue to do is partner with technology companies and experts to bring them in and help us."
The swamp is deeper than anyone imagined. And it had a microphone in the room.
