Patriot Brief

  • What Happened: Rep. LaMonica McIver asked Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons if he thinks he's "going to hell" and if he considers the "blood on his hands" during a House hearing.
  • Why It Matters: McIver is awaiting trial after being charged with assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers during a riot outside an ICE facility in May.
  • Bottom Line: A federal judge ruled in November that the Democrat congresswoman must face trial for attacking a cop, but that did not stop her from lecturing ICE leadership.

A Democrat congresswoman who is literally awaiting trial for assaulting a police officer just "axed" the Acting ICE Director if he thinks he is going to hell.

Rep. LaMonica McIver grilled Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Todd Lyons during a House hearing Tuesday, demanding to know if he considers himself a religious man and how Judgment Day will work for him with "so much blood on your hands."

"We are here for answers, we are here for accountability, and we are here because people are dying," McIver said. "Let me repeat that, people are dying, and you don't seem to care."

She continued, "Let me axe you some questions that you may be able to answer. Mr. Lyons, do you consider yourself a religious man?" The woman can't even pronounce the word "ask" and expects to be taken seriously.

The ICE chief replied, "Yes ma'am." Then came the question that left the room stunned. "Do you think you're going to hell, Mr. Lyons?" McIver pressed.

Lyons refused to answer. "I'm not going to entertain that question," he said.

McIver fired back, "Of course not."

Rep. Andrew Garbarino, the committee chairman, stepped in to remind McIver that members must adhere to standards of decorum and debate. But the damage was done. A sitting congresswoman just asked a federal law enforcement official if he thinks he is going to hell for doing his job.

The irony is almost too much to handle. McIver is currently facing trial after a federal judge ruled in November that she must answer for assaulting a law enforcement officer during a riot outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, in May.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and then-Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced that McIver was being charged with assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers. The charges came after a thorough review of video footage and a full investigation.

So let me get this straight. A congresswoman who physically attacked a federal officer is now lecturing the Acting ICE Director about morality, blood on his hands, and eternal damnation. She is awaiting trial for assaulting a cop, but she thinks she has the moral authority to ask a law enforcement official if he is going to hell for enforcing immigration law.

This is the state of the Democrat Party. They assault officers. They incite riots. And then they lecture the people trying to secure the border about Judgment Day.

McIver should be focused on her upcoming trial, not grandstanding in Congress. But here we are.
