Patriot Brief
- What Happened: Boston Mayor Michelle Wu went viral after saying every human being has a “legal right” to come to the United States and seek shelter.
- Why It Matters: The claim directly contradicts federal immigration law and reinforces fears that Democrats are pushing open borders by rhetoric, not statute.
- Bottom Line: Wu’s remarks ignited backlash from lawmakers and voters who say America is being redefined without consent.
Democrats are no longer even pretending to follow immigration law.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is going viral again after resurfaced video shows her claiming that every human on earth has a legal right to come to the United States. In a March interview, Wu is seen stating, “Every single human being has the legal right to come to the United States and seek shelter.”
That statement is flatly false. Federal immigration law does not allow anyone to simply arrive on American soil and stay. Immigrants must apply for visas or asylum, typically from outside the United States, undergo background checks, interviews, and approval before being legally admitted. The process is not optional, and it is not universal.

Wu’s comments reignited outrage across social media, drawing tens of thousands of responses from Americans who see the remark as an admission of the left’s open borders agenda. Texas Republican Rep. Brandon Gill summed it up bluntly, writing, “Dems demand infinity immigration, then infinity welfare — all at Americans’ expense.”
Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee also pushed back, saying, “Nope … That’s not how any of this works … Never has been… Never will be… Bad things happen when we pretend otherwise.” In a follow-up post, Lee added, “The quiet part out loud: The entire world has more right to America than Americans.”

Critics also pointed to Wu’s past controversies, including her administration sponsoring a racially segregated “no-whites” Christmas party at City Hall in 2023. The invite went out to all employees before Wu issued a muddled apology claiming it was only meant for “electeds of color.”
As cities like Boston prioritize migrants over reform, the consequences are showing. Writing in 2023, Michael Lind warned that badly managed cities rely on what he called “an international migration Ponzi scheme” to avoid collapse, propped up by low-wage immigration and taxpayer subsidies.
Americans are noticing. And they are done being told borders do not matter.
