Now five members of the New England Patriots team have announced that they don’t plan on attending the team’s ceremonial visit to the White House in recognition of their Super Bowl LI championship.
Four of the five New England players have said they don’t feel welcome — one way or another — because Donald Trump is now President. Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower doesn’t plan to attend, but simply said “been there done that,” having visited the White House twice already when he played for the University of Alabama.
Running back LeGarrette Blount is the latest to announce he won’t be attending, vaguely citing Trump as the reason, USA Today reports.
“I just don’t feel welcome into that house. I’m just gonna leave it at that,” Blount said on “The Rich Eisen Show” Thursday.
Previously, Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, corner back Devin McCourty and defensive end Chis Long announced that they would not attend because of Trump.
