A man targeting a young girl for sex was taken down by a sting operation set up by a metro family.
The father, who has not been named, discovered that the 33-year-old man had been having inappropriate conversations with his 15-year-old daughter, Daily Mail reports. He found out about the texts through the app Family Time, which allowed him to see his daughter’s messages.
After reporting the texts to the authorities, he decided to take justice into his own hands and set up a trap for the man, who has also not been identified. The dad reportedly pretended to be his daughter and asked the man to come over, under the pretext of having sex in a tent in the backyard.
On June 22, the family watched as the teen’s stepmother sat in the tent, waiting for the man to come. The teen was reported to be inside the home, and didn’t know about the sting operation.
In the video footage, the man looks inside the tent before being tackled by the father’s nephew. The family then binds the man’s hands and feet as they await the authorities.
The man was not injured in the incident. Police arrested him for unlawful communication with a minor by the use of technology.
“He admitted immediately that he was there to have sex with my daughter,” said the father. “So the moment he entered my yard, that point in time, I had to do what was right as a father.”
“As a parent, I don’t blame him,” said Del City Police Major Jody Suit. “I think it’s your right to protect your children.”
In another amateur sting operation in 2016, a father in Chicago caught a 20-year-old man who had been sexting with his 13-year-old daughter, according to CBS.
The dad discovered that Ishmael Henry had been sending his 13-year-old daughter inappropriate messages on Snapchat and the app TextMe, and took over the conversation, pretending to be his daughter. The dad, posing as the girl, suggested meeting on a street corner.
When Henry arrived at the agreed-upon location, he encountered the girl’s father with another person. The dad got the attention of police, who arrested Henry when he tried to flee.
Henry admitted that he had been texting the girl, whom he had known was underage, and reportedly said that he had planned to touch the teen “a little” but said he had not intended to do anything sexual at the place where he had agreed to meet the girl.
Henry was arrested for indecent solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor, and was held on $50,000 bail.
