A heartwarming story was recently shared by a police officer on Facebook.
The officer describes an encounter with an elderly woman while picking up a few items from the local grocery store. It was posted to the “Police Lives Matter” Facebook page and you can read the post below.
I was in the grocery store picking up some milk while in uniform. I usually arrive home around 7:15 AM which also happens to be about the time when my two children, ages six and nine, are waking up. It has become standard routine that they have a hearty breakfast with me before they have to head out the door by 8 A.M. in order to be at school by 8:30.
As I stood there and contemplated whether or not I should purchase the 1% or 2% milk, an elderly woman walked up next to me and said “excuse me, young man, could I trouble you for a hug” and, of course, I could not deny it. She then proceeded to thank me for keeping her city safe and then handed me a piece of paper, folded in half, and requested that I not open it until I had walked by to my patrol car.
Inside the folded piece of paper was a voucher for unlimited free hugs and coffee for all first responders and it listed her address at the local retirement home.
This is why I love my job.
This officer’s post is sure to make someone’s day. If it brought a smile to your face, please share this story and spread good cheer on your Facebook wall.
I for one would earnestly like to see more good news!
There are plenty of good people out there doing good things. Let’s hear more about them.
Stop giving hoodlums the attention they crave.
