ABC has been caught using a fake image of President Donald Trump to promote an interview with him.
The picture, which was composed by digital artists with The New Yorker, shows Trump in the Oval Office, TMZ reported. It was allegedly shown on air several times Jan. 24 before the error was noticed and corrected.
ABC issued an apology, acknowledging that its marketing team made a mistake.
In his interview with the network broadcast Jan. 25, Trump discussed the controversial torture technique of waterboarding with David Muir.
Trump said he believes waterboarding works. But he explained he would allow Defense Secretary James Mattis and CIA Director Mike Pompeo to decide whether to use it.
“I will rely on Pompeo and Mattis and my group,” Trump told Muir. “And if they don’t want to do, that’s fine. If they do wanna do, then I will work toward that end. I want to do everything within the bounds of what you’re allowed to do legally.”
“But do I feel it works? Absolutely, I feel it works,” Trump added.
At his confirmation hearing, Pompeo appeared to rule out the use of waterboarding when he said he would not comply if Trump issued a presidential order to reinstate enhanced interrogation techniques.
“Absolutely not. Moreover, I can’t imagine I would be asked that by the president-elect,” Pompeo added.
Trump declared the violent methods used by terrorists meant the U.S. had to respond.
“When they’re chopping off the heads of our people, and other people. When they’re chopping off the heads of people because they happen to be a Christian in the Middle East — when ISIS is doing things that nobody has ever heard of since medieval times, would I feel strongly about waterboarding? As far as I’m concerned, we have to fight fire with fire,” he said.
Trump made a statement on waterboarding during the Republican primary campaign to ABC that was widely reported.
“Not since medieval times have people seen what’s going on. I would bring back waterboarding and I’d bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,” he said during an ABC-hosted debate.
