Why This Woman Is Suing McDonald’s Is The Dumbest Thing You’ll Hear All Day…

McDonald’s has seen its fair share of lawsuits. The Mega Corporation is no stranger to outlandish claims by its consumers.

In its most recent run-in with accusations, a Russian woman is saying the company forced her to break her no-meat fast and buy a hamburger. She now wants compensation for the advertisement that made her crack.

Ksenia was trying to stay away from meat, dairy, poultry, and meat by-products for the full duration of Lent because of the season. Ksenia is an Orthodox Christian who observes the Julian calendar, according to which lent is a stringent time when one must abstain from eating animal products. The Russian said that she kept her fast for a full month before being forced to end it in April 2019 by a McDonald’s commercial.

In 2019, Ksenia Ovchinnikova adhered to a rigorous diet during Lent. The woman adhered to rigorous rules on the avoidance of meat and meat products as an Orthodox Christian. Before the Easter festival, many Christians observe the tradition of giving something up for the occasion.

The Russian woman deliberately avoided consuming any dairy, poultry, or meat products while doing this. However, McDonald’s advertising kept appearing, making the task impossible. In the end, the woman caved. She indulged in a hamburger at the infamous burger place.

Now she wants 1,000 rubles, or $14, as compensation for being unable to resist the cheesy goodness.

In a statement, Ovchinnikova said,

“By this point, I had already been fasting for a month, but when I saw an advertising banner, I could not help myself, I visited McDonald’s and bought a cheeseburger.”

“In the actions of McDonald’s, I see a violation of the consumer protection law. I ask the court to investigate and, if a violation has taken place, to oblige McDonald’s LLC to compensate me for moral damage in the amount of one thousand rubles,” the woman said.

The court has not yet scheduled a time for the claim’s hearing.  However, for promoting their alluring meat offerings during Lent, McDonald’s might face legal action in Russia.

Here are some comments from folks online:

“That’s like suing a lingerie ad because it made a man cheat on his wife.”

“Always someone else’s fault, whatever happened to taking responsibility for one’s own actions?”

“Did she take into account that not everyone is fasting for lent due to religious reasons, and they do want to see an advertisement for hamburgers?”

A staunch critic even said that Russia should “charge her for wasting court’s time.”

“I saw an advert for an electric car and immediately felt an urge to become a lefty greeno loser- can I sue the manufacturer concerned?” One person joked.
