President Donald Trump on Sunday said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, writing on Truth Social: “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” The claim was reported by Antiwar.com.
Zelensky disputes it, then offers conditional pause
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Axios the supposed energy truce was “news to me,” according to the Antiwar.com report. Later the same day, in his nightly address, Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure if Moscow did the same, adding, “We welcome such an agreement.” Antiwar.com noted he made similar comments after Trump’s previous announcement of an energy truce nearly a month earlier, which the outlet said “turned out not to be true.”

Russia hasn’t responded; FT reports U.S. threats over strikes
Antiwar.com said Russia had not commented on Trump’s announcement as of its report. The outlet also said the Financial Times reported the U.S. is threatening to cut off European-funded U.S. arms shipments to Ukraine if Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries continue, and that the U.S. is also threatening to “cut off intelligence sharing.” According to Antiwar.com’s summary of the FT report, it remains unclear whether the Trump administration would take that latter step.
Context and contested intelligence role
Antiwar.com reported that Trump has criticized Ukraine’s drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. The outlet also asserted the refinery strikes are supported by U.S. intelligence and would likely continue unless that support is cut off.
