A mother’s story of her young daughter’s amazing act of kindness is going viral.
Kenyatta Lewis was walking out of a store with her daughter when they walked by a crying homeless man.
“Did you see that man crying?” Lewis’ daughter asked her. “What’s wrong with him?”
When the mother said, “Maybe he’s just sad,” her daughter replied, “Maybe he’s hot and thirsty.”
According to the post on Love What Matters, the young girl then walked over to the man and said, “Hi sir, be happy it’s a nice day, it’s not raining. Are you hot? Why don’t you go home, the ground is dirty.”
When the man told the Lewis’ daughter that he had no home, the mother says she looked at him with the “saddest face” and said, “So that means you’re homeless.”
The girl then reached into her purse, pulled out the few dollars she had saved up for herself, and told the man, “Please go eat,” reports Mad World news.
After the girl selflessly gave to the man in need, she and her mother had a short conversation with him. He revealed that his trailer burned down, so he lost everything he had, including his wife.
The mother said that after her daughter gave to the man, two adults followed her lead and donated some money to him, as well.
“It just warms my heart,” she wrote on the Love What Matters page. “A 6-year-old lead by example this morning. AWESOME! Kids see no color and that’s exactly how it should be. It’s not just a statement saying that children are our future, it’s a FACT. That gives me a little hope for the world.”
If there’s anything to take away from this touching story, it’s that a little kindness can truly go a long way.
