An Asiana Airlines airplane was in the air when a man unlocked the emergency exit and said he “wanted to get off quickly” because he was suffocating.
The man opened the door as the jet was approaching to land in Daegu, South Korea, on Friday, terrifying the passengers, according to CNN. A video shared on social media showed the emergency door being unlocked and air rushing into the cabin.

An airline official claims that the 33-year-old passenger unlocked the emergency departure door while the aircraft was still 700 feet in the air. He was seated in the emergency evacuation row. Officials told CNN that despite the terrifying circumstances, the jet landed safely.
The man was detained by local police after landing and apparently admitted to telling them that he had been stressed out as a result of losing his work and felt stifled.
The individual reportedly told police he wanted to leave the plane as soon as possible. The individual was accused of breaking the legislation governing airline security, and if found guilty, he may spend up to 10 years in prison.
194 passengers were being transported by plane from the southern island of Jeju to Daegu. Twelve persons were treated for minor wounds, and nine of them were taken to the hospital for treatment of breathing problems. Track and field athletes from elementary and middle schools were also traveling to a competition over the weekend.

Geoffrey Thomas, an aviation specialist, told CNN that the man opening the emergency door mid-flight was “very bizarre” since “[t]echnically, it’s not possible to open those doors in flight.”
“It seems implausible that the door could be opened in the first place and then against the airstream technically impossible, but somehow or another it has happened,” Thomas added.
According to Asiana Airlines, the man’s ability to open the door may have been caused by the change in pressure as the plane descended.
“The airplane is automatically set to adjust the pressure of the cabin according to the altitude of the aircraft,” the airline said. “When the aircraft is high up in the air, it is impossible to open the door but when the altitude is low and close to landing, the door can be opened.”
