Why Is The White House Briefing TikTok Users On the War in Ukraine?

Share X Facebook Email

It is hard for anyone to take Joe Biden as a serious leader.

The man is continually bumbling his speeches, speaks nonsensically, and always comes across as a weak leader to the world.

None of that bodes well, especially with the threat of World War III is looming over everyone.

Instead, of Biden taking a tough stance and “barking” at Putin for his aggressive act, Biden’s team is talking to TikTok users.

Last Thursday, 30 TikTok users gathered in a Zoom call headed by Jen Psaki and White House National Security Council staffers where they were allegedly given “key information” about the conflict.

The White House has noticed that TikTok is a hub for the youth to gather and get their information about what is happening in the world. This is what lead the White House to reach out to the influencers on the popular site.

The White House had been watching TikTok’s rise as a popular news source, which led to the decision to contact the influencers.

Many of the influencers claimed that they “felt more empowered” to communicate about the crisis following the call.

This is what propaganda looks like in the 21st Century.

The Washington Post reports:

On Thursday afternoon, 30 top TikTok stars gathered on a Zoom call to receive key information about the war unfolding in Ukraine. National Security Council staffers and White House press secretary Jen Psaki briefed the influencers about the United States’ strategic goals in the region and answered questions on distributing aid to Ukrainians, working with NATO and how the United States would react to a Russian use of nuclear weapons.

As the crisis in Ukraine has escalated, millions have turned to TikTok for information on what is happening there in real time. TikTok videos offered some of the first glimpses of the Russian invasion and since then the platform has been a primary outlet for spreading news to the masses abroad. Ukrainian citizens hiding in bomb shelters or fleeing their homes have shared their stories to the platform, while dangerous misinformation and Russian propaganda have also spread. And TikTok stars, many with millions of followers, have increasingly sought to make sense of the crisis for their audiences.

The White House has been closely watching TikTok’s rise as a dominant news source, leading to its decision to approach a select group of the platform’s most influential names.

For more on this propaganda campaign, here’s Town Hall:

“After the call, several influencers said they felt more empowered to debunk misinformation and communicate effectively about the crisis,” The Post continued. “TikTok has been overrun with false and misleading news since the war broke out, and, on Thursday, the company said it finally would begin labeling state-controlled media on its platform,” the report added.

Ironic that TikTok would begin labeling state-controlled media given the fact that the app itself is state-controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.
