What saved family when robber forced them on a Target shopping spree? [video]

Being awakened at 7 a.m. by a gunman at your door is probably the last thing you would expect. But according to ABC-11 WTVD, Tuesday morning a robber knocked at a Durham, South Carolina family’s door and demanded money. Worst yet, he demanded the family – a man woman and two young children get in their car and take a terrifying ride with him at gun point.

According to police, 29-year-old Rollin Anthony Owens Jr., made the male driver head to a nearby ATM, then a neighborhood convenience store before forcing kidnapped family to drive to a Target on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard. For the adults and children, what came next had to be totally unexpected.

Owens insisted that everyone join him in the store where he demanded that the adults purchase several bags of clothing and gift cards for the robber. Thankfully, one of the Target shopping victims alerted a store employee who immediately called 911. In a stroke of good luck, Durham police officers just happened to be in the Target parking lot when the urgent call came in.

The kidnapper-robber was not able to enjoy his store-bought goods, because the police arrested him without any incident, reported WTVD.
But the story does not end there. It appears that Owens, who has been charged with several counts of second-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon, has allegedly been quite the busy robber over the past several weeks.

local law enforcement report that Owens is also facing numerous charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, assault inflicting serious injury and assault by pointing a gun, according to WTVD. In addition, the nefarious individual was also arrested on prior charges of felony larceny, breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretense and trespassing.

The criminal offender is now cooling his heels in the Durham County Jail with a $1 million bond on him. Seems like for Owens, he was certainly not on target with his idea of a successful heist when he chose Target to allegedly top off his crime spree.
