The University of Georgia (UGA) is known for their red and black colors, their Bulldog mascot, and their football team. During football season, they are all I hear about, seeing how my boyfriend is a Georgia fan.
The school is in the news again, but not for achievements or sports this time. No, a more solemn shadow has been cast as we see the tweets being sent by a UGA student group calling to “behead all republicans.” We are in the far South though, and while we watch in horror as such things happen in other states, it does not usually hit so close to home. The fight is here now. We already carry, but now we must carry with eyes more alert and fingers ready.
Responding to a story about a professor at the Art Institute of Washington who allegedly claimed that House Republicans should be “lined up and shot,” the Young Democratic Socialists at the University of Georgia reportedly tweeted that the Republican members of the House should instead be “guillotined.”
The founder of the Young Democratic Socialists (YUCK) UGA chapter, David Littmann, was class of 2016. He spoke out and made light of the topic, stating that the tweet was made only in jest. He said, “I wouldn’t have made that joke myself, but it is clearly and obviously facetious. As a strict pacifist, I believe that all violence is immoral, period. But it’s absurd to take the joke literally.”
This is completely unacceptable. Whether the left wants to label it as a “joke” or as “art” or whatever the heck else, it still boils down to one thing: a threat…..and it is a threat that we cannot take lightly.
The university announced on Twitter that their campus police is investigating the issue. Students involved may also be facing investigation by the Office of Student Conduct.
They need to be investigated by the FBI if you ask me. The call for murder and violence towards Conservatives must be stopped immediately.
