This Photo From Ted Cruz Is Sparking Controversy Online: “This Is Insane”

A photo of President Donald Trump posing for a picture with senator Ted Cruz’s daughters is going viral.

The photo was posted to Twitter on March 9 by Ted Cruz, the Daily Mail reported. It shows Cruz’s two young daughters, Caroline and Catherine, next to Trump as he sits at his Resolute Desk.

“Our family had dinner w the President & First Lady, who were warm & gracious,” Cruz tweeted. “Catherine brought Joe–her kindergarten class stuffed giraffe!”

Several Twitter users were thrown off by the photo, and reminded Cruz of his rocky relationship with Trump during the 2016 presidential race.

“This man insulted your wife and said your dad killed a president,” wrote Tony Posnanski. “I understand you have to work with him but this is insane.”

“R u in an alternate universe — trump shamed ur family in horrific ways — and u let ur daughters near him — like he’s santa,” tweeted Rosie O’Donnell.

trump-tweet-3-24-16“Did you share with the kids how Trump called you ‘Lyin’ Ted’ and told people your father killed JFK?” asked Amy Holden Jones. “Or his insults about grandma?”

Jones then posted a screenshot of an old tweet by Trump.

“Refreshing your memory, here is the photo Trump posted” she wrote.

However, some Twitter users appeared eager to move on.

“Now people need to let the past go and embrace the future together to come together to fight the evil and corruption in politics,” wrote one Twitter user.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer spoke about the meeting between Ted Cruz’s family and Trump at a press briefing. He confirmed that Heidi Cruz attended.

“They talked a little business, a lot of personal last night and it was a very enjoyable thing,” Spicer said.

When a reporter asked Spicer if the president planned to apologize to Heidi Cruz during the breaking of the bread, he responded: “I think they are looking forward to a great dinner.”

“I know that he enjoyed welcoming senator and Mrs. Cruz and his two daughters last night to the White House,” Spicer added. “They had a very enjoyable time and a very fruitful discussion, but it’s something he’s going to continue to do with members of both parties and both chambers and not just here in Washington.

“I think you’re going to see him engage in governors and attorney generals, lieutenant governors. The president truly enjoys this level of engagement. He likes to sit down and talk about ideas, talk about the future of this country and get their input and ideas.”
