Earlier this week, hosts on Russian state TV said that Vladimir Putin could “destroy the whole east coast of the US” with just two missiles.
This was the latest in a long line of scary threats.
In a clip from the country’s popular propaganda show, a member of the Russian parliament brags about the country’s military power and says that 2 million Ukrainians are “incurable.”
Alexie Zhuravlev, the politician, was joined on the talk show by Yevgeny Popov, the host of the Rossiya 1 show and a fellow MP who speaks for the Russian government.
The lawmaker said that it would only take two of Russia’s Sarmat “Satan 2” missiles to destroy the entire east coast of the United States. He also said that it would only take “two missiles” to do the same to the west coast.
“After four missiles, nothing will be left. They think the mushroom cloud will be higher than a high rise. “You’ll be able to see that mushroom cloud from Mexico,” Zhuravlev said.

Vladimir Putin, the leader of Russia, has also said that his Satan 2 missiles “can get past all modern missile defenses.” But since Russia invaded Ukraine, these kinds of threats have become more common on Russian propaganda shows. However, the risk of mutually assured destruction makes many of these threats less scary.
As well as threatening to destroy the United States with their nuclear weapons, the unsettling conversation also talked about the crisis in Ukraine, with the hosts repeating the idea that Russia’s invasion was “Nazi-like.”
Zhuralev said that two million Ukrainians should “be de-Nazified,” which means “be destroyed.” He said that they were “incurable.”
