You never know when that training you didn’t think you’d use would be useful.
A 3-year-old kid came dangerously close to drowning over the weekend in the hotel pool at the Encore Las Vegas.
Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, was nearby and trained in using an AED, which was a blessing for that young child and his family.
The boy’s father reportedly pulled him out of the water and carried him to a lifeguard on Wednesday, but by that point, he had lost his pulse, according to Morris’ wife’s Instagram post that was published by numerous publications, including ESPN.

When Morris observed the lifeguard starting CPR on the youngster, she hurried to get the AED.
“I saw people calling 911 so my first question was, where is the AED?” Morris told ESPN.
“When I got back, we had a doctor on site that was able to start the compressions,” he said.
“I was able to hand the AED to him, get it open for him, put the pads on the child, and he ended up being OK,” Morris said.
Morris claimed that Damar Hamlin’s on-field collapse during a January Buffalo Bills game had contributed to a greater understanding of the value of AEDs and instruction in their usage.
He also brought up the death in April of Arrayah, the 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett, who drowned after reportedly falling into their home’s pool, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
According to Morris, that tragedy also brought attention to the necessity of lifesaving training.
“I’m just thankful I knew what to do,” Raheem Morris said. “You just never know when you’re going to need that stuff.”
