Former Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight just said president-elect Donald Trump “may be the best” president we’ve ever had.
On Thursday, the legendary Indiana Hoosiers coach was stopped by TMZ and asked about what kind of president he thinks Trump will be and if he thought the president-elect had any basketball skills.
“He [Trump’s] tough,” Knight said. “He’s smart. And he’s going to be as good of president as we’ve ever had…may be the best.”
Knight, who has traveled to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration, even joked about Trump playing “defense” for his basketball team.
“Well I’d have to check whether he could shoot or not but he could sure as hell play defense,” Knight said. “And he would be able to win because of what a great defensive player he would be.”
Trump recruited Knight during the Republican primaries. The coach has been a very vocal supporter of Trump from the very beginning. He spoke strongly of the president-elect at one of his campaign rallies in Indianapolis, even called him a “son of a bitch.”
“Let me first tell you that I was very, very selective with players during the time that I was here and I’ll tell you one thing, that man that was just up here a moment ago, I’ll tell you, that son of a bitch could play for me,” Knight said.
