A Georgia judge has mandated a hearing to address accusations that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis engaged in an inappropriate relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she appointed for the 2020 Georgia election case involving former President Donald Trump.
Willis faces allegations of embarking on luxurious vacations with private lawyer Nathan Wade while her office paid him substantial sums for the Trump case. The prosecutor, reportedly lacking significant prosecuting experience, is purportedly romantically involved with Willis.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has instructed Willis to respond in writing to the allegations by February 2 and schedule a hearing on February 15, as reported by the Washington Post.
Former Trump campaign aide Mike Roman, seeking the dismissal of charges against him, raised the accusations against Willis in a court filing, contending that Wade should not be involved in the case.
Since January 2022, Wade has reportedly received over $650,000 from the Fulton County DA’s office. Willis is further accused of misleading county officials to secure additional funds for Wade, allegedly violating Georgia law by not seeking the county’s approval to hire him.
Willis has suggested that the accusations against her are racially motivated, asserting that she is being singled out.
“They only attacked one,” Willis remarked in response to criticism of Wade. She countered claims of playing the race card, stating, “Isn’t it them playing the race card when they constantly think I need someone from some other jurisdiction in some other state to tell me how to do a job I’ve been doing almost 30 years.”
House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) is also investigating Wade’s connections to Willis and the White House. Wade reportedly met with Democrats in Washington, D.C., including engagements with the Democrat-run January 6 Committee and White House meetings before the initiation of the Georgia election case against Trump.
