Approximately 42 years after Jesus’ birth, a new word appeared: o in Greek, which has been translated as “Christians” in print since at least 1526.
Based on the past week, members of the Biden administration may have never heard of the term before.
In the aftermath of last week’s heinous shooting at Covenant Presbyterian School, opinion writer Tim Meads noted the recent lack of use of the word in a Friday piece for The Daily Wire titled “Has The White House Even Said The Word ‘Christian’ Since The Nashville School Shooting?”
According to Meads and my research, the answer appears to be “no.”
Meads pointed out that neither the term nor the (obviously Christian) name of the school the shooter targeted were mentioned in President Joe Biden’s official “Proclamation on Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Nashville, Tennessee,” issued over his name on the day of the shooting.

Biden also failed to mention that the shooter identified as transsexual, which is understandable given the timing and circumstances of the statement.
Meads then pointed out that the president’s official Twitter account had mentioned the faith of four Muslim men killed in New Mexico in August, Asian-Americans on the National Day of Action and Healing in 2021, and the LGBTQ+ community on the fifth anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Florida.
Biden also had no qualms about mentioning Christians when they were celebrating, as opposed to mourning.

Of course, it’s also White House press secretary Karine Jean-job Pierre’s to speak for the president, so Meads followed her on Twitter.
Despite the shooting at a Christian school in Nashville four days earlier, Meads discovered no mention of “Christians” on Jean-account Pierre’s since a December Christmas tweet — and no mention of Nashville at all.

He did discover that the word “Christian” appeared once on Joe Biden’s other (ostensibly more personal) Twitter account, but it was a man’s first name, and the tweet was nearly three years old anyway.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am skeptical of any claim that someone “always” does something or “never” does something. People aren’t that consistent, and such claims are frequently rhetorical hyperbole.
So I went through all of the transcripts of White House Press Briefings from March 27 to the following Monday morning. Do you want to guess what I discovered? (Go ahead and guess; I’m going to throw you a softball.)
None of them contain the word “Christian.” Not even once.

Why would that be the case? Meads left his readers to draw their conclusions, and I’m not any better at mind-reading than he is.
However, politicians are professional communicators; they can make mistakes, but the administration’s consistent refusal to use the term over a full week simply cannot be explained away by accident or coincidence.
The president and his staff are aware of who his supporters are — and who they are not. And he has no desire to converse with the latter.
