The U.S. Navy Just Took Drastic Measures To Evacuate Americans From An African War Zone…
The US Navy reportedly sent a ship to Sudan to evacuate hundreds of American citizens who had become stuck after two opposing armed groups clashed earlier this month.
According to Reuters, two anonymous US sources claimed on Sunday that the Navy temporarily stationed the USNS Brunswick near Port Sudan, most likely to remove US individuals on board.
The claim comes after the Biden administration announced that buses transporting hundreds of American people arrived in Port Sudan as drones kept an eye out for potential malicious activity. According to reports, US officials have been working with Saudi Arabia to deploy a ship to the port to rescue the Americans.

According to NBC, a Pentagon official stated, “The Department of Defense deployed U.S. intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets to support air and land evacuation routes, which Americans are using.”
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said, according to the news outlet, that the U.S. was “moving naval assets within the region to provide any necessary support along the coast,” adding that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had “approved a request for assistance from the Department of State to support the safe departure.”
According to Matthew Miller, a State Department official, “intensive negotiations” by the US with the backing of “regional and international partners” have reportedly allowed citizens and non-citizens alike to flee the African country, which has been under heavy violence since April 15.
Hundreds of paramilitary forces and citizens were killed or injured in Khartoum last week as the Sudanese army bombed positions held by the country’s RSF paramilitary group in a power struggle that some international observers fear could spark a full-fledged civil war.
Last week, World Health Organization officials reported that the Sudanese health ministry had recorded at least 459 deaths and over 4,000 injuries. Aid employees from two United Nations agencies, the International Organization for Migration and the World Food Programme, were among those killed. Both organizations have since ceased operations.
The United States evacuated its diplomatic employees but had already informed thousands of other Americans that they were on their own if they wanted to avoid the battle. The White House was unable to explain why other countries deployed planes to Sudan’s capital this week to evacuate its citizens.

The Biden administration justified the State Department’s decision to withdraw embassy personnel from Sudan while taking only limited steps to assist thousands of Americans believed to be still in the country.
According to the US Department of State, 16,000 Americans remain in Sudan. However, officials were unable to confirm the count because Americans living or traveling abroad are not required to check in with or otherwise notify the US government of their plans.
According to State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel, “a small number of about 5,000 citizens requested assistance to leave Sudan by land, sea, or air.”
According to Blinken, many Americans in Sudan are dual citizens who do not wish to leave despite the country’s deteriorating conditions.
“The overwhelming majority of American citizens in Sudan are dual nationals who made their lives there, who have been living there for years, d'[ecades, for generations, and many want to continue to do that,” he said. “But for those who are seeking to leave, we will continue to engage directly with them to see what we can do to help them, and, like I said, with allies and partners as well to help facilitate their departure.”
