The Police Who Responded To Uvalde School Shooting Are Now Under Investigation!

In response to the family of the victims’ demands that the concerned police officers be fired, the Uvalde City Council has said that it will look into each city police officer who responded to the Robb Elementary Mass shooting.

Tuesday, during a tense city council meeting,  council member Ernest “Chip” King III said during a council meeting, this investigation is looking at every single officer and what his actions, what he did, what our policy says, and basically, we’re gonna get a report on everybody,” King said.

“We will act on it, and we promise that to you.”

He added that every PD at the scene would be held accountable for their actions. The council selected former Austin, Texas, police officer Jesse Prado to serve as the principal investigator.

Prado will take the initiative and interview 25 of the city’s 39 police officers.

“He’s gonna be conducting the investigation and we’re gonna let the investigation go, see what he determines, but everybody that’s Uvalde PD that was there will be held accountable for their actions,” King said.

The pledge to look into the responding officers is the latest attempt by authorities to give the families of the victims, the local community, and others who are still demanding an explanation for how law enforcement handled the May 24 massacre some reprieve.

The aim is to hold people accountable for law enforcement’s response to the shooting, which a state investigation found was marred by failures.

A Texas House investigation found that nearly 400 officers from various local, state, and federal agencies waited 77 minutes after the gunman fired his first shots before entering the classroom. The report also highlighted breakdowns in communication among the officers. The shooting was the second-deadliest school shooting in US history.

The incident’s on-site commander, School Police Chief Pete Arredondo of the city, has come under fire for his slow reaction time. Last month, he was placed on administrative leave as calls for his termination grew.

After a Texas House committee study found that the agency had disregarded active shooting training that day, Lt. Mariano Pargas, the interim chief of the Uvalde Police Department, was suspended last week.

Lt. Pargas and Chief Arredondo are the only two police officers who are being disciplined in some way.

However, many victims and families of the shooting who attended the City Council meeting on Tuesday said that they wanted further action to be taken. Now the spotlight is on each and every member of the local law enforcement there that day.

Many wished to hold the council accountable for their inadequate response to the slaughter by calling for the suspension of all city police officers who attended the scene of the shooting.
