LGBT activists promote a narrative in which they are portrayed as a helpless group that is mistreated by society, yet it seems that the contrary is actually true.
That appeared to be the case on Saturday in Reading, Pennsylvania, where a Christian was detained for waving a sign during a “pride” gathering that featured a well-known Bible scripture.
Another Christian who, according to the Lancaster Patriot, goes by the name of Matthew Wear, recorded the entire episode. In the video, Matthew Wear claims that he was preaching for around 12 minutes before the police ordered him to stop.
Then another preacher, named Damon Atkins, came up with a sign that read, “Go and sin no more,” a famous quote from the Gospel of John that is frequently overlooked by leftists who like to use the rest of the story to make Jesus seem like he would be accepting of sin.
Police Sergeant Bradley McCune approaches Atkins shortly after he arrives and asks him to respect their event. Atkins said that since it was on public property, he had a right to be there.
Atkins then proceeded to preach as McClune and other cops left the scene. When they returned, they handcuffed Atkins and the crowd cheered as they were brought away from the “pride” gathering.
The Lancaster Patriot reports that McClune filed a criminal complaint against Atkins, asking that he be prosecuted with “disorderly conduct” and claiming that he “yelled derogatory comments at an organization that was holding a permitted event.”
To counter this assertion, Atkins has stated that he attended the gathering to spread the good news to people who need to hear it.
“The main reason I was there was because of love,” he said. “Because Jesus has taught me to love my neighbor as myself.” He also hit back against the claim that his statements were “derogatory,” saying that he was only quoting the Bible.
According to The Lancaster Patriot, Atkins has a court hearing set on June 16 and is hoping that the Alliance Defending Freedom would represent him.
Sadly, nothing about this is brand-new or unexpected anymore. Josh Alexander, a Catholic student in Ontario, Canada, was arrested after he attempted to go to school despite being suspended in February after declaring that there were only two genders.
Alexander was detained once more in April after distributing Bibles at a rally in Calgary, Alberta.
A pastor protesting a drag queen story hour event for kids in Calgary was detained and imprisoned over the Easter holiday.
Even while these incidents may have occurred in Canada, the fact that Atkins was detained for peacefully opposing a “pride” celebration demonstrates that the same thing is beginning to occur in America as well.
The LGBT movement in America, and indeed throughout the West, is no longer a helpless and oppressed community; instead, it is now protected by the police and the government, in contrast to Christians who are persecuted for spreading the Gospel.
