She Sold Her Dead Son’s Crib, The Next Week The Buyer Returned It For…

Expecting a baby has to be one of the best feelings in the world. Just thinking of the happy times that follow with the birth of that bundle of joy causes excitement in the parents-to-be.

A woman named Valerie Watts was looking forward to seeing her baby’s face, but her happiness and heart were crushed when she gave birth to a stillborn baby boy.

In the months leading up to her delivery, Valerie‘s baby, Noah, seemed to be healthy. However just days before she was about to give birth, she felt a change.

“All week, I knew,” Valerie told Fox9. “He wasn’t moving as much. I was very nervous.”

Noah‘s umbilical cord was pinched in the womb and he was sadly born stillborn last July.

Still grieving, Valerie was reluctant to part with the furniture from the nursery she prepared for him, but ultimately, she had a garage sale and sold Noah‘s crib to Gerald Kumpula.

“She was kind of hesitant,” he recalled. “I knew that maybe she didn’t want to sell it, but yet, she did,” he told Fox9.

When Valerie had explained to Gerald and his wife what happened to her son, Gerald decided that his newly purchased crib had to be returned to her, but instead of simply giving it back, he transformed it into a beautiful symbol of kindness and comfort.

Gerald, who has a workshop at his house, converted the crib into a memorial bench for baby Noah.

When she received the bench, Valerie said, “I started crying instantly. It’s amazing, there are good people out there.” This story, she says, is “proof.”

“In a way, when I’m sitting in it, I feel comforted by Noah’s presence, even though he’s not here,” she told Today. “It’s like a peaceful, it’s-OK type feeling. When I feel down, I can sit on the bench and I feel OK, everything’s going to be OK.”

There’s not much to do to help a grieving parent, but I guarantee Gerald’s act of kindness for this stranger was something she will be grateful for forever.
