Scientists On The Hunt For ‘Super-Predator’ That Ate 9-Foot-Long Shark (Video)

A stunning documentary chronicles the search for a monstrous creature that ate a 9-foot-long shark (video below).

Researchers say they inserted a tracking device inside the great white shark to track its movements for a study, but were shocked when the device washed up on shore in Australia four months later.

When they went to analyze the data on the device, the scientists said they discovered that there was a  sudden rise in temperature as well as a sharp plunge of 1,902 feet, according to the New York Post.

Based on their findings, scientists concluded the 9-foot great white shark was eaten by a mysterious creature that is much larger in size. The researchers are basing this theory on the idea that the change in temperature falls in line with being swallowed by another creature, reported Daily Mail.

Now, the startling case is examined in an upcoming documentary called “Hunt For The Super Predator” that was put together by the Smithsonian Institute. The filmmaker, Dave Riggs, says he was shocked to learn the tracking device had washed up on shore.

“When I was first told about the data that came back from the tag that was on the shark, I was absolutely blown away,” said Riggs. “The question that not only came to my mind but everyone’s mind who was involved was, ‘what did that?’ It was obviously eaten. What’s gonna eat a shark that big? What could kill a [9-foot] great white?”

The documentary will take a look into the hypothesis that a massive “super shark” exists, and Riggs hopes that they’ll be able to figure it out before it’s too late.
