Donald Trump spoke at a “Make America Great Again” rally in Louisville, Kentucky, Monday afternoon where he took a shot at Colin Kaepernick for his national anthem protest.
Trump brought up the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and took a jab at him saying, “I’m sure nobody ever heard of him,” causing some cheers from the Kentucky crowd.
The president then cited an article claiming NFL owners don’t want to pick Kaepernick up because “they don’t want to get a nasty tweet from Donald Trump!”
“Do you believe that?” Trump said to the crowd that gave a loud cheer.
Trump then added that he wanted to be sure to remember to report on that comment because the people of Kentucky “like it when people actually stand for the American flag, right?” The crowd let out an even bigger cheer for that.
An anonymous NFL general manager told Bleacher Report about the league-wide hesitations of signing the former 49er for an article published over the weekend. The NFL insider’s comments didn’t come as a surprise, but only confirmed what everyone suspected would be an interesting off-season for the national anthem protester.
A few weeks ago, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Shortly after that he announced that he would not be carrying his national anthem protest into the next season.
