For the past week, Harvard University President Claudine Gay has been under criticism for her remarks to Congress in which she declined to characterize advocating for the “genocide of Jews” as hate speech.
President Gay of Harvard was among several other top college presidents who failed to denounce the remarks, including the presidents of the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Just last weekend, powerful Jewish groups were able to force UPenn President Liz Magill to retire. Scott Bok, Chairman of the Board at UPenn, is also rumored to be quitting.
Since the October 7 killing in Israel by Hamas-affiliated terrorists, the reaction in American academic circles has been overwhelmingly pro-Hamas virtue signaling. Student organizations influenced by pro-Islam arguments have emphasized the Palestinian cause while downplaying Jewish victims and concerns. Despite the strong, coordinated, financial, and political strength of American Jewish supporters of Israel, pro-Palestinian actions are taking place on college campuses.
Harvard was forced to explicitly criticize some of its students last month after significant alumni and donors threatened to withhold funds in reaction to pro-Israeli political and corporate pressure on Harvard. In protest, a prominent Rabbi at Harvard quit. Congress has threatened to investigate pervasive anti-Semitism. Harvard’s president, Claudine Gay, is being urged to quit via mobile video vans.
And now it appears that Harvard President Claudine Gay may have plagiarized her PhD thesis, which is possibly the most serious academic transgression. Gay will become Harvard’s first black president in 2023. Gay earned her undergraduate degree at Stanford and her master’s and doctorate degrees at Harvard.
Christopher Rufo of the Manhattan Institute in New York posted comparisons and excerpts of Gay’s PhD thesis that bear a startling resemblance to other researchers who go uncited and uncredited.
If accurate, this would be a severe violation of Harvard’s academic standards, potentially invalidating much of Gay’s academic work.

First, Gay lifts an entire paragraph nearly verbatim from a paper by Lawrence Bobo and Franklin Gilliam’s, while passing it off as her own paraphrase and language.

Rufo also says that Gay stole from conservative Vanderbilt University Prof. Carol Swain, citing the following example as one of many:

Prof. Carol Swain, retired at Vanderbilt University, has already responded to the controversy on Twitter by saying:
