Fremont, Calif. — A teenage suspect died after an alleged home invasion at a Fremont apartment ended in a struggle over a gun that a resident used to shoot him, according to Fremont police, as reported by ABC7 Eyewitness News.
What police say happened
Officers responded shortly after noon Friday to an apartment on San Pedro Drive for reports of a shooting. They found a teenage suspect with a gunshot wound; he was taken to a hospital and later died, authorities said.

Police said two teenage suspects allegedly forced their way into the apartment and attacked people inside. During a fight, one resident gained control of a suspect’s firearm and fired, striking one of the teens, according to investigators.
Second suspect found; residents injured
The second alleged intruder fled after the shot was fired. Investigators later located and identified that teenager, authorities said. Police did not immediately release the teen’s current status.
Two occupants of the apartment were also hurt. Police described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

What remains unknown
Authorities have not released the ages or identities of those involved. Police have not said why the teens went to the residence or whether they knew the occupants. No determination has been announced on potential charges for anyone inside the apartment or on whether the shooting was legally justified.

Investigation ongoing
Detectives are working to reconstruct the sequence of events, including how the resident obtained the gun and the circumstances under which it was fired, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fremont police. (Source: ABC7 Eyewitness News)
