Oregon law enforcement shot and killed a would-be thief who tried to hijack a helicopter from an airport in Hillsboro.

The Oregonian reports that a masked suspect hopped a fence near Hillsboro Aero Academy and approached a helicopter where a student pilot was preparing for takeoff. The student and his instructor fled when the suspect threatened them with a gun, though the suspect ran as well after a police deputy came up while he tried to enter the copter.

The suspect ended up firing a shot before running into a field near the airport. Police eventually shot the suspect, who died at the scene. No other injuries were reported from the incident.
