Police Called Immediately After Beloved Husband And Father Makes Facebook Post

A man named Randy Janzen admitted to killing his wife, daughter and sister in a confession post on Facebook.

Janzen’s 19-year-old daughter, Emily, was an aspiring actress who suffered from migraines so severe that she missed two years at the University of British Columbia and struggled with depression, according to Janzen’s Facebook post. Emily had dealt with the migraines and depression since elementary school.

Janzen described how much it pained him to watch his daughter suffer. Eventually, he decided to take his daughter’s life, which he viewed as an act of mercy.

“Emily had tried everything to get better but nothing seemed to help her,” Janzen wrote. “I took a gun and shot her in the head and now she is migraine free and floating in the clouds…a true angel.”

Afterward, he shot and killed his wife and sister.

“Then I shot Laurel because a mother should never have [to] hear the news her baby has died,” Janzen wrote regarding his wife Laurel Sinclair Janzen. “Then a couple of days later my sister Shelly because I did not want her to have to live with this shame I have caused all alone.”

The social media post alerted police in British Columbia who investigated and discovered the multiple homicides.

Officers of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team initially went to a house in Langley where they found a body. They received further information regarding another potential situation and went to a house on Llanberris Way in Popkum, B.C.

CTV News reported there had been a standoff with police officers at the house before witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Several hours later, the house caught fire. The IHIT later reported that the suspect, believed to be Randy, and several members of one family had died.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Chilliwack School of Performing Arts mourned the Emily’s death and posted a tribute statement on its Facebook page in honor of her.

“Today we celebrate the incomparable Emily Janzen,” the statement reads. “A former student and instructor, forever a part of our CSOPA family. We will fondly remember her bright smile, beautiful voice and amazing spirit. She will be greatly missed. Our condolences go out to all her family and friends.”
