A viral video has emerged of a woman dressed only in a bikini and high heels climbing out of a fire engine and walking into a strip club in San Jose, California.
It’s attracted plenty of online commentaries and now, city officials are launching an investigation. Read on to find out what happened and what the internet (and the San Jose mayor) had to say about it.
The video was posted on Oct. 6 by the Instagram account SanJoseFoos. In it, the scantily clad woman exits the back of the truck, which has its lights flashing. She twirls and strides into the Pink Poodle strip club on platform heels.
“Only in San Jose do you see a stripper come out of a fire truck,” the caption read. The post has racked up more than 16,000 likes.
With this, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo issued a statement saying: “If the investigation concludes that this video is as bad as it looks, then heads must roll. We cannot have a life-critical emergency rescue apparatus relegated to a frat party bus, nor tolerate any conduct that so demeans the heroic work of the rest of our SJFD team. I trust that [Fire] Chief Robert Sapien, as one of our nation’s finest fire chiefs, will respond accordingly. “
The department also released a statement on “a concerning video posted on social media:”
“San Jose Fire Department is committed to serving the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. It is the goal of the department to serve the community with courtesy and service. As such, it takes all feedback regarding the conduct of its employees seriously,” the statement reads. “If findings of an internal investigation reveal inappropriate behavior of any Department members, appropriate steps will be taken to address the matter. The City of San Jose Code of Ethics policy guides the conduct of all City employees. All City of San Jose employees are expected to adhere to the Code of Ethics Policy they have agreed to as a condition of their employment.”
A Friday release from the city’s fire department stated, “It is the goal of the department to serve the community with courtesy and service. As such, it takes all feedback regarding the conduct of its employees seriously… All City of San José employees are expected to adhere to the Code of Ethics Policy they have agreed to as a condition of their employment.”
After the video surfaced, the mayor released a statement about the bikini-clad woman.
“We cannot have a life-critical emergency rescue apparatus relegated to a frat party bus,” said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo.
The video, which was uploaded by an account called San Jose Foos, showed a firetruck parked in front of a strip club called the Pink Poodle. In the video, which is quite short, a woman wearing only a bikini and super high heels walks out of the fire truck and directly into the strip club, where it is purported that she works as a stripper.
The video has caused an uproar across San Jose, especially among the fire department and mayor’s office.
The San Jose Local Firefighter Executive Board said in a statement: “We are aware of the situation. This union does not condone what was seen on video. The fire department is handling and investigating. This does not represent the values of San Jose firefighters Local 230.”
Folks online shared a plethora of comments about the video on social media, including the following:
“She probably has 2 jobs. Firewoman during the day, Poodle at night. Times are tough,” said one commenter.
“I would be hell scared to climb out of that truck with those heels, would have just twisted my ankle,” said another.
Neighbors were shocked. “What do you say? I mean my mouth dropped. And she had no clothes on,” nearby business owner Vince Grimaldi told KTVU. “What is she doing inside the fire truck? And who is running the fire truck, and who is in charge and why did they allow this? Somebody is in trouble.”
