A 42-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her three-year-old son at their Dublin home earlier this week.
Maha Al-Adheem, a doctor who’s originally from Iraq, is accused of stabbing 3-year-old Omar Omran in her apartment in Kimmage on Monday.
Ms Al-Adheem appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday over the death of her son Omar Omran, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds in their apartment in Kimmage on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Brendan O’Halloran, of Sundrive Road Garda Station, said he arrested the accused at 12.40am for the offence of murder, contrary to common law.
She made no reply to the caution after arrest, he told the court.
Ms Al-Adheem was subsequently charged in his presence by another garda sergeant.
Gardaí believe that the toddler lay dead at his apartment for more than two hours after being discovered on his bed with several stab wounds to his body and legs.
Detectives have established that the toddler was killed at approximately 4pm on Monday.
Mother of the toddler, Al-Adheem, was also brought to St. James Hospital for stab wounds on the side of her torso.
The victims dad is not a suspect in the case and was told about the death of his son yesterday.
Maha Al-Adheem is a qualified doctor in her native country Iraq, but did not sit the exams to attain a medical licence to practice in Ireland.
Members of the Dublin Fire Brigade forced entry to the apartment on Monday evening, breaking down the door to gain access.
After numerous attempts to resuscitate the toddler, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to The Sun a local resident and neighbour had said that the toddler was a ‘lovely little lad.’
“I used to see him out on his trike. He was a lovely little lad. His parents would be out with him playing.
“It’s just a tragedy and my heart goes out to them.”
An ambulance from the city morgue arrived and removed the body from the scene at 11.45am yesterday, where they are now carrying out forensic examination.
Locals have been paying their respects by placing flowers, balloons and teddy bears at the scene.
