Mom Receives Shocking Sentence For Murdering Her 2 Kids, Explains Why She Did It
A mother who admitted in smothering her two kids to death was sentenced to 130 years in prison.
Amber Pasztor, 30, kicked in the door of her father’s home so she could take the children. She abducted her children Sept. 26 from their custodial grandparents’ home near Fort Wayne, prompting an Amber Alert. She killed 7-year-old Lilliana Hernandez and 6-year-old Rene Pasztor while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Their bodies were found the same day inside a stolen car parked behind the Elkhart Police Department, about 70 miles (110 kilometres) northwest of Fort Wayne. Pasztor had flagged down an officer and showed him the bodies.
Pasztor previously said she decided to kill the kids when authorities issued an Amber Alert.
“I knew the police was gonna get us,” she elaborated, saying she didn’t have the heart to shoot them so smothered them instead. “And with me behind bars and my kids out here with all my problems; no. Sorry. No. I’m not that selfish. I’m not a coward.”
“My kids are in a better place,” she added. “They don’t have no worries no more.”
The mother also said she gave her children a choice in the matter.
“I gave them a choice,” she said. “That they can live traumatized like their mom, or they can go to heaven with God and be better off.”
In December 2016, Pasztor wrote a letter to the court asking for permission to plead guilty in the children’s death. A judge said the court had to determine her competency before accepting a guilty plea. After multiple competency hearings, Pasztor pleaded guilty.
“I do believe you’re sorry,” Judge Michael Christofeno told Pasztor. “But that unfortunately does not undo this horrific act.”
Pasztor pleaded guilty but mentally ill as part of a plea agreement. Christofeno cited her use of alcohol, marijuana and synthetic marijuana as factors in his sentencing decision.
She learned her punishment Thursday morning inside a courtroom in Elkhart County. She received 55 years for each murder count, plus a 10-year enhancement on each charge.
Pasztor is also charged with the shooting death of Frank Macomber, her 66-year-old former neighbor. Investigators believe she shot him and took his car before abducting the children.
