Mom Packs Non-Halal Lunch For 5-Year-Old Daughter, Suffers The Consequences
A woman’s 5-year-old daughter was reportedly starved at daycare because the meat in her packed lunch was not halal.
Yasmin Jackson, 24, sent her daughter Amari to Kingswood Day Care Nursery.
Jackson packed Amari a lunch consisting of chicken salad, bread sticks, hummus, chocolate, and fruit on her first day at the nursery.
But Jackson claims Amari was not allowed to eat her packed lunch.
“When I picked her up at the end of the day the first thing she said to me was, ‘Mummy I’m really hungry, can I have my lunch now?’” Jackson said.
Jackson spoke with the manager of the nursery about why her daughter was not allowed to eat her lunch and states she was told the staff did not know if it was healthy.
“‘There was a sandwich in there and we didn’t know what it was. We didn’t know if it was halal’,” Jackson claims the manager said.
“I said we are a Christian family and it was a chicken sandwich. And she said we don’t allow any non-halal meat in the nursery. So I thought this is just ridiculous,” Jackson continued.
Nursery manager Afsheen Siddik denies Jackson’s claims that Amari was starved.
The Standard reports that the nursery did try to feed Amari, offering her plain spaghetti, which she refused to eat.
A Facebook post by Jackson regarding the incident went viral on the internet and the Nursery was the victim of abuse and threats online.
Scotland Yard and Ofsted, a school watchdog organization, was called in for assistance.
“I deny the untrue and false allegations that have been made against myself and Kingswood Daycare Nursery,” said Siddik. “As a result I have informed Ofsted and the police who are currently dealing with this matter.”
Siddik would not comment on the nursery’s packed lunch policy, reports The Daily Mail.
“This is not about being anti-Muslim. It’s anti-starving my child, and anti-stupidness,” Jackson said.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
