A man aging 34-year-old identified as Ladontes Miller of North Charleston, was reported dead in a Mazda van when an officer arrived at the scene on St. Johns Avenue near Hunter Street. The car was backed into a residence as if it had crashed. The headlights were on and the vehicle was running.
A woman told local authorities she was having sex with the victim in a car Friday night in North Charleston when someone shot the man to death, according to the incident report.
A man who lives near the area called 911 about 9:30 p.m. and said he had heard a loud bang about 10 to 15 minutes prior to the call. His neighbors then found Miller slumped in the driver’s seat of the Mazda and described the woman in the back seat as “strung out,” he told the police dispatcher.
The woman, who was described as a “known prostitute,” on the incident report, was squatting behind the open driver’s door when an officer arrived. Her hands, face and dress were covered in blood, according to officers who responded.
The alleged prostitute told the officer she had met Miller earlier in the day and that she didn’t know his name. She initially denied having a prostitution deal with him but later admitted to it.
She then went to tell the officer she and Miller were having sex in the vehicle along the side of the residence when someone came up to the car and suddenly shot him once. She said the shooter sped away in a vehicle and scould not provide any suspect information.
“She also was unable to tell me how many subjects there were,” the officer wrote in the report. “(The woman) informed me that she had just smoked crack. As a result, (the woman) struggled to follow my questions with any proper mental capacity.”
Other witnesses told the officer they heard a single “pop.” They tried to help the woman out of the Mazda, but she pulled the door shut. She then used narcotics in the back seat while Miller was dead in the front seat, witnesses said.
Police continue to investigate the homicide.
