Everybody has locked their keys in the car at least once and in many cases more than once. People then will spend a lot of time trying to get their car opened even if it means breaking a window. That is not necessary. There is a hack which will allow you to unlock your car and retrieve your keys in under thirty seconds. It does require that you have string or shoelaces. You can always put them in a magnetic box and affix it to your wheel well in case you ever need it. Of course you could keep a spare key in that box but car thieves often look for them and they would have no idea what to do with the shoelace in most cases.
The end of your fancy knot should have a small loop that is about the width of your index finger.
Once you have your string tied correctly, you are going to shimmy it in through the corner of the driver’s side window. This will be the right side of the window. There is usually a point at the corner, which will allow you to maneuver the string inside the door.
When the string is partially inside the window, you will use both hands to move it in a seesaw motion, which will slowly move the string further down the window and closer to where the inside lock is. This part of the process may take some intense concentration because you will want to move it so the loop in the string is heading toward the lock.
Next, you will use your best aim to get the loop over the lock and as you are doing this you’ll start to pull the ends of the string so the loop tightens around the lock. When you feel like the loop is secure around the lock, you will gently pull up on it, which should naturally unlock the car door. The key to this part is to be gentle and cautious before you make any quick movements. All it takes is one too-fast move and you’ll have to start all over again. And let’s face it, there is a good chance that you are already late for something so you’ll want to save as much time as possible.
