Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard-educated liberal lawyer, has commented on the continuing witch hunt against President Donald Trump numerous times. He thinks there is just one positive aspect to the most recent indictment.
Dershowitz expressed his surprise that the most recent accusations made against Trump had any merit. Dershowitz continued by describing how the issue stems from a text conversation between Trump and a writer.
The writer was apparently told by Trump that he could have declassified the documents in his possession even though he knew they were classified, according to the Daily Mail.
Then, it appears, he declared that he would provide the writer with the documents as proof.
The tale is challenging to accept. It seems a little odd that Trump would present someone with a confidential paper while claiming he decided not to declassify it.
America has seen several plots intended to bring down the well-liked nationalist leader, which is not helpful. Americans have much greater faith in Trump than they do in any other government body.
All indications point to this case being a new witch hunt designed to remove Trump from the 2024 elections.
Dershowitz criticized the prosecutor’s allegations and pointed out that the lawsuit against Trump had been bolstered with so many baseless accusations that there was a high chance they might completely derail the case.
He claimed that weak accusations make stronger accusations appear less credible to the jury.
“I’ve seen many cases lost by prosecutors because they have over-indicted and overly introduced evidence that didn’t persuade the jury.
And the jury say to themselves: oh, my God, if they are planning to go after him on these weak charges, how can we trust them on the strong charges?”
Dershowitz responded that he did not believe Trump would likely do any jail time when asked if he would. He did advise Trump to exercise prudence in his speech.
The majority of the charges, he said, were pretty weak, but the tape of Trump allegedly discussing having sensitive secrets was the strongest piece of evidence.
He pointed out that the argument’s strength was that it was independent of a witness.
“But what’s so strong about that one recorded phone call is that it doesn’t rely on the credibility of witnesses. It stands for itself.”
Trump is also charged with attempting to conceal documents. According to Dershowitz, there is not enough evidence to convict the President.
He said, “If it can be proved that there was an intent to hide classified documents to make sure that the federal government never got them, it might be serious. But the fact that Trump didn’t destroy them, however, would undercut that.”
Dershowitz also pointed out that Joe Biden’s document issue was treated very differently than Trump’s.
The fact that there is a significant difference in what the President and Vice President can do with documents has received virtually little public attention.
When he took the materials, Joe Biden was serving as vice president. Additionally, vice presidents lack the same power to declassify records. Joe Biden would face much more criticism than Trump if the entire indictment were nonpartisan.
