Joy Behar has stirred up controversy with her remarks about First Lady Melania Trump and her son, Barron Trump, during a segment on “The View”.
During a segment on ‘”The View,” the panel was discussing funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, according to the Bizpac Review.
“That funding, all that wonderful government funding we used to get for these kinds of programs have all been cut,” Whoopi Goldberg said during the segment. “Thanks Mr. T.”
President Donald Trump has not yet cut funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, though as the Los Angeles Times reports, the Trump administration is considering the action following a recommendation from the Heritage Foundation and the Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives. The Trump administration has not reached a decision on the issue yet.
During the segment, co-host Joy Behar joined in on the conversation, and what she said about Melania and Barron left many feeling that she went too far.
“Somebody find this out for me, the price that we’re paying for losing the NEA, the National Endowment for the Arts, because we are paying for this woman to live in New York with that child,” Behar said.
Social media users immediately picked up on Behar’s tone and had plenty to say about it.
“‘That child’ Joy? You mean Melania’s child?” one Twitter user wrote to Behar. “You ignorant hack.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, if the Trump administration decides to eliminate the NEA, he would be the first president to attempt doing so.
Critics of the potential budget cut have pointed out that eliminating funding the for NEA would make an insignificant dent in the national budget. According to The Washington Post, the 2016 budget for the NEA was $148 million, which makes up just 0.003 percent of the federal budget.
