John and Patsy Ramsey reported their daughter missing on Christmas Eve in 1996 after they said they found a ransom letter demanding $118,000 for her return. JonBenét Ramsey was later found beaten and strangled in the basement the next day.

During a three-part interview on the 20th anniversary of her death, Dr. Phil asked Burke about theories that their mother killed JonBenét in a fit of rage.

“I don’t know the details but I know the ransom note, they think the handwriting matched,” Burke replied. “I don’t think I’ve read the whole thing, I’ve definitely seen pictures of it. I’ve never really looked at it closely. I’ll see it and get taken aback and it’s not something I really want to look at a lot.”

“Honestly, I think it’s too sloppy.”

“We never got spanked, nothing of the sort, not even close,” he said when Dr. Phil asked if Patsy ever grew angry with them. “Not to say she didn’t get upset, [but] nothing near putting a finger on us, let alone killing her child.”
