In connection with a corruption investigation, members of President Joe Biden’s family will be served subpoenas, according to House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY).
Comer revealed in an interview with Fox Business that his team is assembling a “case” that will stand up in court for a legal battle based on financial records and testimony gathered as investigators look into the flow of millions of dollars going to members of the First Family from foreign nationals. This project could soon result in an impeachment inquiry.
“This was always gonna end with the Biden’s coming in front of the committee. We are going to subpoena the family,” Comer told anchor Maria Bartiromo. “We are putting the case together to win in court,” he added. “Obviously with all the opposition and obstruction we are getting from the Biden attorneys now, we know that this is going to end up in court when we subpoena the Bidens.”

China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan, have been traced by the GOP-led oversight panel, according to staff memos, raising questions about whether the president is vulnerable to influence-peddling. At least a dozen members of Joe Biden’s family, according to Comer, may have participated in an “influence peddling scheme.”
The Oversight Committee has made it clear that its primary goal is to develop “legislative solutions” that would strengthen existing ethical laws and regulations pertaining to the disclosure of financial interests.
However, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) claimed last month that the investigation into the finances of the Biden family is “rising to the level” of an impeachment investigation. Despite McCarthy’s lack of commitment to the impeachment procedure, rumors have circulated that an investigation might start as early as this fall as the 2024 presidential election cycle heats up.
Hunter Biden, the president’s son, is a key focus of congressional investigators’ inquiries because he is also the subject of a federal criminal investigation. The Biden family “brand” was very important to their commercial endeavors when the elder Biden served as vice president, according to Devon Archer, his former business partner who recently testified before the House Oversight Committee.
During meetings with business associates, Hunter Biden allegedly placed his father on speaker phone about 20 times, according to Archer, who claimed that these calls were “signal enough to be powerful” despite the conversations focusing on banal subjects like the weather or fishing. Joe Biden, according to Archer, also dined occasionally with his son’s international business partners.
The House Oversight Committee’s inquiry of the Bidens has been criticized by Democrats in Congress. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the panel’s ranking member, claimed in a statement to the press on Wednesday that his Republican colleagues had “once again released information on financial transactions that do not involve” the president while working to “rehash the same Hunter Biden business dealings that Congressional Republicans identified at least three years ago.”
Years ago, Joe Biden insisted that he had never discussed business with Hunter, but as the oversight group unearthed more proof, the White House began to assert that the elder Biden never conducted business with his son.
On Wednesday, when a reporter inquired about the calls with Hunter’s business acquaintances, the president yelled at the reporter, “I never talked business with anybody.”

Despite the barrage of denials, Comer said that investigators had “caught” the president in “so many lies” and emphasized that “Bank records don’t lie.” The chairman also stated that his committee intends to talk with three or four more acquaintances before going on to subpoenaing members of the Biden family, a move that might possibly necessitate the use of subpoenas.
“This is a complicated case, and we’re being obstructed every step of the way by the Department of Justice, by the FBI, by the Secret Service, by the IRS, and by the Biden family attorneys,” Comer said. “But that’s not stopping us. We continue to produce evidence about every two weeks.”
